Applicants are reviewed on a rolling admissions basis. Students are encouraged to apply by April 1. Applicants must submit an application form, personal essay, official college transcript, two academic letters of recommendation, and a $50 application fee which is credited toward program costs.

Students are expected to have completed one year of introductory biology and any two biology electives. Exceptions to this requirement can be made based on other science courses you may have completed (e.g. chemistry, physics), and on the overall strength of your application. If you are not sure you have the appropriate background, please contact the Three Seas Program office to discuss this further.

International students must also submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores and a DCF (Declaration and Certification of Finances) form.

Medical Insurance and Diving
Students must supply a medical examination and evidence of medical insurance coverage for the program year. All students interested in SCUBA diving must have diving certification and Diver's Alert Network (DAN) insurance. Students provide all of their own dive gear except tanks. All classes using SCUBA for field work also have projects for snorkelers. Students wanting to become SCUBA certified should do so by the summer and have 10 open water dives before beginning this program.

Credits
Undergraduate credit is available for all courses offered. Credits earned in the program are transferable to most colleges and universities. Beginning in Fall 2003, Northeastern University will operate on a semester system.

Students wishing to earn Graduate credit for participation in the Three Seas Program must submit an additional graduate application form to the Department of Biology in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. For more information on the graduate application process click here to download a pdf file, or contact the Three Seas Program Office.

Three Seas students and alumni needing an official transcript of the courses completed while in this program should consult the registrar’s office webpage for details on how to obtain a copy.
